Tech companies provide apps that can ease divorce and custody

In today's on-line world, there are many technological applications that claim to make life easier. When it comes to divorce and co-parenting, it may feel impossible to communicate clearly without dragging children into the middle of parental conflicts. However, there are several apps that may make both divorce and sharing custody less stressful for many Colorado families.

There are several mobile apps that can help parents stay organized and in touch with a former spouse. These apps may be as simple as a calendar that may be downloaded and then shared with the other parent. These calendars make coordinating custody and school functions less complicated. Several of them include features that allow either parent to make modifications as needed and then shared with both parents and children. Some of the more sophisticated programs also include information that keeps track of child exchanges and whether a parent was on time.

There are programs that can track both child support and alimony payments. Some provide data that shows how child support is allocated. Others help parents keep track of child care expenses outside of support obligations and help convert certain expenses into requests for reimbursement from the other parent. A few of these apps include features that allow children and other selected individuals to share information, messages and pictures privately.

There are programs geared toward helping parents re-establish healthy communication in order to parent effectively. There are apps that can help draft legal documents and facilitate communications relating to a divorce or custody matters. Some of these programs are free, while others include free features, and some offer a premium service for a fee. While none of these programs can replace legal advice, those that improve the lives of children may be a useful tool. Colorado residents who are in the process of filing for a divorce may find these programs complement the services provided by an experienced attorney.
