Do you know which Colorado jobs have the highest divorce rates?

According to research, certain occupations have a higher rate of marital success than others. A statistician recently compiled data from the 2015 U.S. Census Bureau's community survey and found that where spouses earn a paycheck could have a direct effect on their chances of filing for divorce. That may come as a surprise to many Colorado residents.

Overall, the data showed that individuals with higher levels of income experienced lower rates of divorce. Physicians, engineers, software developers and scientists were among those with the lowest rates of divorce. On the other hand, factory workers, bartenders, telemarketers and gaming services workers have the highest rates of divorce.

Researchers believe that these findings could be partially based on the environment in which some spouses are earning a living. Occupations requiring frequent travel and nights away from home had higher rates of divorce than those that followed a more traditional work schedule. Another explanation could be that couples who are financially secure may be better equipped to weather marital difficulties than those who have the added stress of making ends meet each month.

For Colorado spouses who are struggling with their own marital difficulties, this information may make it easier to see patterns within their relationship. For example, if a great deal of marital strife revolves around one spouse's occupation, then it may be possible to salvage the union by deciding to make a career change. However, researchers are quick to point out that there is more to marriage and divorce than simply how an individual earns a living.
