When most Colorado residents end a marriage, they may go through a difficult period of time, but they are at least afforded a degree of privacy. For celebrities, however, the details of their divorce are often the subject of constant media coverage, as well as a great deal of speculation. An example is found in the high profile divorce between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
Heard filed for divorce last May, after an alleged act of domestic violence. The couple settled shortly thereafter. The full details of that settlement were not released to the public, but Heard quickly announced that she would be donating the monetary proceeds of the divorce to various charities that assist women and children. She also released photos of herself with bruising on her face, and spoke publicly about being subjected to physical abuse at the hands of her husband.
Depp denied those claims, and has since argued that Heard has repeatedly violated the terms of the couple's confidentiality agreement. He is now asking the court to allow him to deduct $1 million from the $7 million settlement, claiming that he has to needlessly pay for legal services to litigate the settlement. Heard claims that Depp has failed to make good on his end of their agreement, and is asking to court to force payment.
As this case moves forward, Colorado readers are likely to gain even more insight into the marriage, divorce and ongoing issues between Depp and Heard. Their case also illustrates the difficulties that can follow a divorce, even after the agreement is signed, sealed and delivered. In some instances, court assistance is required to enforce the terms of a court order or settlement agreement.
